About

Mission

To provide safe and stable housing in partnership with other community social service providers that includes supportive services and rental subsidies for very low and extremely low income individuals and families experiencing poverty and physical or mental disabilities.

Philanthropic Purpose

Affordable Housing Services (AHS) offers a broad range of services and financial assistance that provide housing for individuals and families that have Very Low and Extremely Low Income Limits as defined by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). AHS programs include case management, financial assistance, partnerships with other social service organizations, and housing units for a variety of individuals and families experiencing poverty, homelessness, mental illness, physical disability, and chemical dependency. AHS utilizes community partnerships to augment its own program and further its mission to provide secure, stable, and affordable housing for those who qualify. AHS also focuses on fulfilling guidelines as set forth in federal and state of Minnesota Fair Housing laws.

Participants in AHS must be eligible according to annual area HUD median income limits as set for Hennepin County (Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington’ MN-WI MSA). Participants must also fulfill the terms of their individual case management plan as determined by them and their AHS Case Manager. AHS offers different levels of Case Management based on participants need including intensive case management required for successful outcomes. Participant obligations include compliance with lease agreement terms, budgeting and payment plans, life skills training if necessary, and utilizing other social service providers and referrals when needed. Participants are required to meet with and develop an action plan with their AHS Case Manager to remain eligible and enrolled in the AHS program. The purpose of AHS supportive services is to provide clients the ability to sustain themselves and their families with stable housing that enables them to be engaged with their community.
